Japanese Media: Manga Artist Research
For my personal pop art project, I plan to create a manga modeled off of Junji Ito’s work. Junji Ito is known for his horror mangas, most notably Uzumaki and Gyo. Ito has cited many times that his work ha been inspired by Kazuo Umezu, Hideshi Hino, Koga Shinsaku, Yasutaka Tsutsui, and H.P. Lovecraft (-, FAMpeople, et al.).

In comparison to his contemporaries, I find that Ito’s work takes their aesthetics and intensifies them. I am a very big fan of his work and I find that his use of body horror does its initial job of causing unease and discomfort as well as still remaining strikingly beautiful.

It is believed that it is his mix of realism and exaggeration that pulls the eye to the page and creates an unsettling feeling in the gut (Strokes).
Ito works in pen and ink. Due to this, I plan on either work in dip pen or microns on paper, possibly using some grey tone markers or take it into photoshop to make up for grey tones he uses not accessible with just hatching.

Intermediate 3D Animation: Posebook Week 12
Due to some technical errors happening in Maya with my lighting, I could not render an image. I instead took screenshots, which is the cause for the low quality of the images. I will try to figure out this issue so the quality can go back to standard.
